Can Magí Tower

Address:c/ Tarull. 17320 Tossa de Mar
Price: free of charge

Can Magi Tower or Tower of the Moors is located on the hill of the same name, about 500 meters from the historic center of Tossa de Mar. Because of the sixteenth century pirate attacks on the coast, frequently coming from North Africa and Turkey, King Philip II authorized the construction of this tower defense whose custodian could warn the inhabitants of Tossa with time so they could hide or prepare to defend. The views of the village of Tossa from this viewpoint are excellent, for this reason it is worth coming up here. Illuminated at night.

From the north side of Platja de Lloret beach, you can walk about 20 minutes to the upper town (called Lloret de Dalt) to visit the discrete remains of a Roman tomb dating from the second century AD. In fact this tomb, which unfortunately was demolished in 1967 with the urn containing the remains of the unknown person buried, and rebuilt with the same materials a year later, is located in an ancient necropolis in this place called Can Avellaners de Can Sala, where today nothing is preserved. The tower was discovered and excavated in 1891.

It lies at the northern end of the beach Platja de Lloret (in fact it is clearly visible from the seacoast boulevard), just above the cove of Sa Caleta, and you can visit its proximity through the coastal path that passes nearby. The castle has a series of crenellated towers visibles from the sea and the beach. It is also clearly visible its windows with ogival openings, typical of the Gothic. Over the years it has become a symbol o......
