Vilabertran, which also has impeccably preserved historical buildings in a wide assortment of styles. A delightful music festival – the “Schubertiada” – takes place there every year.
A tour of the hinterland of the northern Costa Brava is further enhanced by other villages with handsome Romanesque architecture and Gothic-Renaissance mansions: Sant Miquel de Fluvià, Sant Tomàs de Fluvià, Sant Mori and, still further inland, Lladó.
