Sant Esteve de Mar Castle, Palamós

Sant Esteve del Mar is a castle on the edge of a cliff left of la Fosca beach. This is the reason why we also refer to it as Sant Esteve de la Fosca. Walking through the beautiful coastal path between the beaches of Es Castell and la Fosca you will find it right at the end. Its profile is unmistakable from this last beach.

Originally from the XIIIth century, the castle was of strategic importance in the battle of Formigues Islands (clearly visible from the castle), when the Catalan troops defeated the French in 1285. Nowadays its ruins are in rehabilitation. Excellent viewpoint.

Roques d'Ase panoramic viewpoint is located in the middle of the Es Castell-Cap Roig Natural Park (among the villages of Palamós, Mont-ràs and Calella de Palafrugell), next to the coast where you can find such interesting coves as Cala Estreta.
