Just five minutes walk from Platja de Portbou beach, in the south, we find, on a hill with great views, the memorial created in 1994 to the great Jewish German philosopher Walter Benjamin, who died in 1940 in Portbou after being pursued by the Gestapo. The monument consists of a metal tunnel designed by Israeli artist Dani Karavan, who named it "Passages". At the end of the tunnel there is a large glass overlooking the bay of Portbou. Next to it is the village cemetery, where you'll find a symbolic tomb dedicated to Walter Benjamin: the body is not really inside.

Veta Blanca is a cliff on the coast of the village of Colera, Costa Brava north, about 300 meters from the famous beach of Cala Rovellada and is quite a geological curiosity for white color between the nearly black cliffs around. This white color is clearly visible, even in satellite images. This is probably a subvolcanic rock, aplite kind. It was formed in the earth's crust by the consolidation of magma that moved up through a crack in the crust itself. It is made of quartz and other minerals, and white and fine texture are due to the absence of black mica. It is a good id......

The little neighbourhood of Molinàs was founded in the late eighteenth century on a valley among the Alberes Mountains, just 4 kms from the center of Colera village. At this point various water streams converge so flour mills were built here, and also vineyards and olive fields were planted. During the twentieth century the rural environment of Molinàs was gradually depopulated and today is a mute testimony of that past. It retains much of those farmhouses built in previous centuries and even abandoned utensils in a beautiful and very quiet natural setting. You can easily w......
