Situated in the Ter valley at the point where the river enters the city lies the largest city park in Catalonia, La Devesa. Strategic site on the northern route of the Via Augusta, it was first a Roman city, seat of the bishopric from the 5th century and capital of the earldom of Girona from the Carolingian era. Even in modern times, its resistance in the War against Napoleon (1808-1809) was legendary.
Its old quarter is dominated by the cathedral, with a majestic entrance (a Baroque staircase with almost one hundred steps). It comprises a large Romanesque bell tower and cloister, a Baroque façade and a Gothic nave. Moreover, it is the widest single nave (almost 30 metres) in medieval European architecture. The temple houses an extraordinary Romanesque masterpiece of textile art, the Tapestry of the Creation (11th century). The Chapter Museum exhibits an outstanding Beatus (10th century) by Ende, one of the few named female artists of the Middle Ages. Lovers of Romanesque and Gothic art must pay a visit to the Art Museum housed in the Episcopal Palace.
Behind the cathedral, the stroll along the ancient wall is an unrivalled vantage point. Visitors can gain an insight into Girona’s past at the History Museum. At the foot of the cathedral, visitors can explore the Call or Jewish quarter, few of which have been so well preserved. The streets surrounding Carrer de la Força and the house of Isaac the Blind (now the seat of the Jewish History Museum) were home to an active Jewish community for 600 years until their expulsion in 1492. The Call features its ritual baths, synagogues and an important Kabbalah school with such wise men as Nahmanides, more commonly known in Catalan as Bonastruc ça Porta.
Next to the cathedral, beyond the Sobreportes gateway, are two churches which form the silhouette of the old city: the Monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants (11th-12th century, a former Benedictine abbey), which houses the Archaeological Museum, featuring a magnificent Gothic nave and a cloister, and Sant Feliu, a stone’s throw from the River Onyar, a blend of different styles which in the presbytery conserves the early Christian tombs from the period of Christian persecution. It has a beautiful cloister and a two-floor octagonal bell tower, decorated with double glazing also in Lombard style. Sant Feliu church contains a chapel dedicated to the patron saint of the city. Legend has it that a swarm of flies emerged from the chapel which frightened off the French during the siege of 1285.
The Arab Baths constitute a unique Romanesque building which was designed according to a North-African model.
One of the most emblematic images of Girona is that of the buildings on the river Onyar, which crosses the city. This is a series of houses on the river, in height, which are painted in bright colors. The city has eleven bridges over the river, and the best known of all is the Eiffel Bridge, designed by Gustave Eiffel and built shortly before the famous tower in Paris.
Girona’s historic centre boasts outstanding architecture and unforgettable nooks and crannies: the Church of Sant Nicolau, the Gothic building of Pia Almoina (a medieval charitable institution), the convents of Sant Domènec (now a university building) and El Carme, the mansions flanking Carrer dels Ciutadans such as the Palau Agullana and the Fontana d’Or (which hosts fine exhibitions), the Plaça del Vi, and the archways on Rambla de la Llibertat. However, Girona also has a wealth of popular legends including the witch of the cathedral (a sinner turned to stone, now a gargoyle on the north façade of the cathedral), the Cocollona (the monster that crosses the river on nights with a full moon) and the bottom of the lioness which brings good fortune to those who kiss it (in front of the Church of Sant Feliu). Girona is a city through which to saunter, brimming with myriad restaurants, designer boutiques and handcraft stores.
Notable buildings on the other bank of the river include the Farinera Teixidor flour mill and the Casa de la Punxa, part of the legacy of the Noucentista architect Rafael Masó. Visitors to this part of the city can also explore the Cinema Museum, the only one of its kind in Spain. Housing the Tomàs Mallol collection, it is a veritable journey through the passion and ingenuity that made cinema possible.

The apartment was basic but clean with loads of cupboard space. The key holder didn't speak any English at all, which made it a bit difficult with my basic Spanish. The windows didn't lock, which made it feel a bit unsecured. The apartment was quite noisy, so bring earplugs. |

The location is very central and within walking distance to the city. The apartment was basic but clean and spacious. The area surrounding the apartment is very noisy, especially late at night, we had a concert playing out the back till after midnight and drums and bangers every night of our stay. The drain in our bathroom had a terrible smell coming from it. There is no where to sit outside - the building is surrounded by other tall buildings very close. We text and emailed the owners about the noise and the smell but they did not reply. They were fine about us leaving a couple of days early but we hen had to go into town and find some hotel to complete payment which was a phaff. |

- que resolvieron los problemas que tenia un apartamento ubicandonos en otro - falta de menaje.(por ejemplo para remover el azucar del cafe tuvimos que usar una cuchara sopera)no hay cucharillas de cafe los vasos (tres de tres tipos diferentes) - no pudimos recoger el agua que al ducharse salia fuera del plato de ducha por no haber fregona. - falta de revision de funcionamiento de los distintos servicios que si tenias la calefaccion puesta no podias tener puesta la lavadora (solo por falta de un simple ladron para conectar ambas cosas). |

Comme je suis venue en avion, j'ai apprécié que le linge de lit et de toilette soit fourni. Il y a Internet, le quartier est calme. Pas de soucis pour se garer car la résidence est entourée de parking. Si comme moi vous avez choisi l'appartement 2 chambres, sachez que c'est le seul qui n'a pas été refait. il est vieillot, avec un électroménager datant d'au moins 20 ans, il n'a pas la climatisation et l'équipement est très réduit. La télévision ne marche pas. Les portes fenêtres ne ferment pas à clé. L'accueil fait à l'arrivé a été expédié et ces personnes habitant au dessus de l'appartement sont très bruyantes de jour comme de nuit. J'ai du nettoyé la cuisine à mon arrivée car tout était gras et le micro-onde sale. Contrairement à ce qui est noté sur leur site, je n'ai pas eu de ménage le 4ème jour mais au bout du 8ème. Pourtant il n'y a aucun balai, ni quoique ce soit pour nettoyer le sol. L'appartement standard 2 chambres est donc à éviter ! |

Ottima nella struttura e funzionalità.Raggiungibile per chi non dispone di mezzo proprio con autobus l5 che transita nei giorni ferali ogni 15 minuti. Ogni ora nei festivi ed impiega, al costo € 1,40 a corsa, il cemtro in 7 minuti. La fermata in entrambi I sensi si trova a 200mt.Consiglio taxi la prima volta dalla stazione renfe/autobus in quanto difficile da trovare essendo in strada chiusa e la piazza è sconosciuta anche ai taxisti. Totalmente inesistente la reception. Bisogna chiamere quando si arriva e se chiami per sapere come fare per raggiungere struttura non ti sono di minimo aiuto.TI Rispondono che mezzi non ci sono ,e non è vero e se per caso hai avuto problemi con carta di credito pretendono subito pagamento in contanti e non ti avvisano.Tutto dipende dicono dall'historic hotel. |

Borden, kopjes e.d. was wel erg matigjes: Prcies 3 van alles, allemaal verschillend, w.s. restjes. Er was geen waterkoker. We kookten water op het fornuis in een grote pan. ( Er waren geen deksels op de pannen, dus op de pan legden we een koekepan) Kortom: alles voldeed op een goede of redelijke manier, maar er was minimale aandacht voor een verzorgde en "gezellige" uitstraling. |

No me gusta nada que m'he enganen las fotos. El lavabo nada tiene que ver con las fotos del web. La cocina y en general en muy malas condiciones y todo muy descuidado y sucio. Ubicación al lado del Celler de Can Roca. Terrassa agradable Tranquilo De beheerder gaf ons amper uitleg, wilde zo snel mogelijk weer weg. Daardoor wisten we niet goed hoe de douche werkte, dat gaf problemen. De vloer was matig schoon. Ik wilde het (tussendoor) graag zelf vegen bijvegen, maar ik had geen enkel schoonmaakmateriaal tot mijn beschikking. Borden, kopjes e.d. was wel erg matigjes: Prcies 3 van alles, allemaal verschillend, w.s. restjes. Er was geen waterkoker. We kookten water op het fornuis in een grote pan. ( Er waren geen deksels op de pannen, dus op de pan legden we een koekepan) Kortom: alles voldeed op een goede of redelijke manier, maar er was minimale aandacht voor een verzorgde en "gezellige" uitstraling. |

Cocina y baños muy limpios. Personal que nos atendió muy agradable. Fácil aparcamiento. Bañera sin cortina. Armarios sin limpiar. No había cepillo ni fregona. La persona de la habitación individual se quejaba de su colchón. |
