Calella de Palafrugell is a small coastal town in the heart of the Costa Brava. Original and colorful, Calella still retains the old charm of the fishing villages before the arrival of tourism. Its most famous creeks are the Canadell, Port-bo or Golfet. On Cap Roig is situated one of the best botanical gardens in the Mediterranean, and on the bay of Port-bo is held every first weekend of July, the famous Habanera Singing Festival.

Belonging to the nearby town of Palafrugell, Calella, one of the towns with more character on the Costa Brava, was originally a fishing village.

In this small corner of the county of Baix Empordà, Calella de Palafrugell offers visitors excellent views of cliffs populated by green pine trees as well as small and very familiar creeks, surrounded by white painted villas that strengthen its maritime personality.

But Calella is a very interesting destination not only for its beaches, but also for its small streets, where walking becomes a delight and you can enjoy restaurants that offer a marine menu or a rum cremat, the specialty drink of the population.

Canadell Beach

Something away from the center, on the promontory of Cap Roig is castle and Botanical Garden, which dates back to 1927, when the beloved Woevodsky family, made by Colonel Woevodsky (amateur architecture) and the English Dorothy Webster ( aristocrat passioned by decoration topics) decided to settle on the Costa Brava, enchanted by her beauty, and develop together here their passion: gardening.

In this stunning natural landscape takes place every summer one of the most popular music festivals in the Costa Brava, Cap Roig, which has attracted over its long history leading international figures as B.B. King, Julio Iglesias, and many others.

In the famous Canadell beach, where you can see the summer villa of the writer Josep Pla family, begins a coastal walkway to the northern that takes you to Llafranc beach, another of the wonderful sites of this area. This trail offers excellent views of the caps of the Tower and d'en Blanc. Once in Llafranc, visit Sant Sebastià Lighthouse (north of the beach, up in the mountain) and enjoy its magnificent environment, which includes an Iberian settlement, a tower of defense that can be visited and a little chapel.

Another of the magnificent beaches of Calella de Palafrugell, Port-Bo, that welcomes every first weekend in July, since 1967, the Habanera Music Festival, another one of the most important music festivals of the Costa Brava (broadcasted on TV), where different groups of singers this music genre sing their songs to the audience. The lyrics remember the times when Empordà emigrants evoked their past life in the Caribbean colonies.
