Parking is free and nearby, very tasty meals in restaurant. Don't be stingy and spend your money for a supper which need to be reserved at the hotel after your check in, it's worth it. But be careful, the portions are really huge.

Duran Hotel & Restaurant is located just 325 ft from the Salvador Dalí Museum in Figueres. It features modern, comfortable rooms with free Wi-Fi and satellite TV.

The rooms at the Hotel Duran feature parquet floors and light wood furniture. They are air-conditioned and have a private bathroom with a hairdryer.

The hotel’s stylish restaurant, once frequented by Dalí himself, serves typical food from the Empordà region of Catalunya. There is also a bar where you can get a snack or a drink.

Perelada Golf Course is a 15-minute drive from the Duran. You can drive to the Cap de Creus Nature Reserve in around 45 minutes.

Duran Hotel & Restaurant is in Figueres

Dalí pays tribute to the genius of the Alt Empordà. It is because Figueres is the capital of the Tramuntana, the strong north wind that brings forth ingenuity. A medium-sized city situated in the Empordà plain, it has been a capital since modern times.

Capital of the region of Alt Empordà, Figueres is the largest city in Catalonia near the French border (which is about 15 kms), with a total population of 45,000 people. Due to this strategic location the city has become a major communication node of tourists coming in and out Spain.

Dali Museum, FigueresRambla de Figueres, main street

Access ways to Figueres are many, and all of good quality. By road it is accessed easily by motorway A-7 (exit number 3). Also the N-II and N-260 are routes that pass through Figueres. If arriving by train, you must know that Figueres station is in the center of town and that is a stop of the line connecting Barcelona with Portbou (last village before arriving to France). Currently the AVE (High Speed Train) joins Figueres with Paris.

The city’s array of museums whets an appetite for discovery. The Toy Museum contains an interesting collection of toys from every era. The Empordà Museum brings visitors on a journey through the artistic legacy of this land enhanced with a centre for the most contemporary art. The Museum of Technology exhibits objects that have made life easier for us.

Undoubtedly, one of the main attractions of Figueres is Dali Museum, the place where the great genius wanted to create the most emblematic of his work. Opened in 1974, the Theatre-Museum (as it was originally the city's municipal theater) is one of the most visited museums in Catalonia. It was designed to offer the visitor a complete overview of the work of painter Salvador Dali (1904-1989), and actually manages to offer a unique image about the artist's work to the captivated visitors. The Theatre-Museum features a collection which includes a car inside which there is a constant torrent of rain, impossible holograms, a sofa shaped like a woman’s lips and so on, up to 1,500 pieces.

Dalí Theater-Museum vaultGiant eggs on the roof of the Dali Museum

But, although the visit to this extraordinary museum in Figueres justify your presence, the cultural offer does not stop there. Sant Ferran Castle (San Fernando Castle) is a military fortification built in the XVIIIth century by military engineers. Its dimensions are impressive (the largest by the time), with a perimeter of 3.120 meters and an area of 32 hectares. The Sant Ferran Castle was able to accommodate up to 6,000 men. Since 1997 the fortified castle can be visited, so walking through it (visiting warehouses, stables and other rooms) is strongly recommended. A visit to the cistern, with a capacity for 40 million litres of water, is an experience worthy of the great travellers’ tales.

San Ferran Castle stables, FigueresSant Ferran Castle main door, Figueres

Already in the middle of the city visit the Rambla, the main road. It is an emblematic urban space, the true commercial hub of Figueres. Around it are concentrated the most beautiful buildings in the city, in various styles: baroque, classical, neoclassical, modernist, art nouveau, noucentists ... La Rambla is crowned by a sculpture dedicated to another of the illustrious sons of the village: Narcís Monturiol, who invented the first submarine, the Ictíneo.

A city with a republican tradition grew up around the Rambla, a city promenade lined with historic cafés such as the old Hotel París and Modernista and Noucentista style buildings (El Jardí theatre is particularly noteworthy).

Visitors can eat well in Figueres thanks to both renowned and new-generation chefs. The region’s natural produce is available at the market on the covered square.

Very clean, close to the centre and not far to walk from the station, and looked just like the photos.

Booked here because i needed wifi to do work, promised good wifi however it didn't work at all. Leaflet in my room said you could borrow a network cable from the reception, but when i asked they just said they don't do that and gave me the wifi password again, and i was just waved away. Also it says on heres 'soundproof rooms', but i could hear the kids screaming and running about in the room next door. Not happy.

Everything. This is a fine hotel that can hardly be faulted.

The lift is quite small, and heavily used, so we preferred to use the stairs. It is a fine, large staircase, right next to the lift, but it is atrociously badly lit. This is dangerous and should we feel be addressed with some urgency.

Ideally located for its proximity to the Dali museum and to visit the town. Don't use the hotel garage. There is a municipal parking lot (between Passeig Nou and Carrer Manuel de Falla) where you can park free of charge. It is located at 4 blocks to the West of the hotel entrance. Great Dali memmorobilia. The bathroom with nice clean walk in shower was fabulous.

When I checked out the staff member had 'mistakenly' added 20 Euros to my bill. A real pity as everything else was lovely and that just left a bad taste in my mouth. They were terribly embarrassed when I rumbled them and rectified the bill instantly.

Ideal location for a visit to the Dali Museum. Our room was spacious, although minimally decorated. The bed linens were pressed and good quality. The bathroom is lovely and the water pressure outstanding. Our room was quiet with double windows on the street side. The breakfast was excellent. Loved the Nespresso machine and selection of breakfast items. Nice staff in the breakfast room. The dining room is gorgeous and I wish we had eaten our only dinner there. We'd had a late lunch and just were not ready for another big meal. Next time for sure.

There was an odd odor on our floor and in the room (3rd floor). Not sewage gas, but kind of a warn out refrigerator smell. The AC was functioning, but not making much progress.

Hotel was quite nice, clean, well decorated. It was close to the Dali museum and the centre of town. Rooms were adequate but nothing spectacular. Food in the restaurant was good but pricey.

I have to say that the staff here, from the receptionists to the wait staff, were unhelpful to say the least. We felt very unwelcome from the moment we walked through the doors. The only staff member who was actually nice to us was the guy looking after the parking. This was the first hotel I've stayed in for a long time that didn't have a small fridge in the room. The room was great, good size and clean. We had such a good price for the room, we were pleasantly surprised! The bed was great and the tiny but cute balcony had a nice view of the cobble stone lane that the hotel is on. A lot of Dali related things around the hotel and in the restaurant, apparently he used to eat there... It was a great location too, right in the heart of Figueres. Beautiful area.

The restaurant, although it has a good reputation, was fine dining but also really dated, stuck in the late 70's perhaps... We didn't really enjoy the food there, but that might be a personal taste thing... Also we had a dodgy taxi driver try to rip us off, even though he was called to pick us up by the actual hotel... (of course that's no fault of the hotel!)
