Carpe Diem Cadaqués is in Cadaqués
Cadaqués is the focal point of the Cap de Creus peninsula, which is an outstanding maritime and terrestrial natural park on account of the diversity of the marine species found there and the shapes of its rocks sculpted by the Tramuntana wind. All round the Cap de Creus, which faces over the Gulf of Lions, are inaccessible islets, cliffs and coves. Though the waters look calm, sea goers have nicknamed it “the Devil’s Cape” and it abounds in tales of shipwrecks and rescues.
The outlines of the rocks (which Dalí described as “a grandiose geological delirium”) inspired his well-known pictures with double images. The views from the lighthouse (built in 1850 on the site of an old watchtower) have been used in various films, including The Light at the Edge of the World (1971), directed by Kevin Billington and starring Kirk Douglas and Yul Brynner.
In the last centuries being a fishing village, it was from the 50's when Cadaqués was opened universally. It has been visited by a large number of artists throughout the twentieth century: Picasso, Matisse, Max Ernst and Federico García Lorca (invited by Dali himself to his home when they were young students in Madrid). The streets of the fishing village, which for centuries suffered from pirate raids, the characteristic brand of Catalan spoken by the local people, the whitewashed houses, and the atmosphere of freedom still make it unique.
The geographical location of Cadaqués is just outstanding. Its bay is the largest natural harbor in the Costa Brava. Often the boats moored in it are of enormous dimensions. As we arrive to the village we cross the National Park of Cape Creus, a small peninsula that sits on a geological fault with more than 400 million years old. Today the park is classified by authorities as a protected natural environment.
Portlligat beach is near Cadaqués, just over a kilometer. It still seems as it was painted by the great Salvador Dalí : narrow and surrounded by rocks ...but who looks Cadaqués just for its beach? The village is full of cultural attractions that visitors can not miss. First, the Home-Museum of Salvador Dali, also in Portlligat, the first vertex that forms the Dalí triangle (made also by Púbol Castle and the Theatre-Museum Dalí in Figueres). Cadaqués center also houses several art galleries and the church of Santa Maria, from the seventeenth century, late Gothic styled, surrounded by numerous small streets that go to the beach. Cadaqués Museum has works made by Dali and other artists. Inside the Church of Santa Maria is a magnificent Baroque altarpiece, and a walk along the seafront to the small lighthouse of Cala Nans is an unforgettable experience.
Cadaqués is also a village of coffee and bars next to the beach. The old quarter is full of trendy shops and craft workshops. From Easter it begins to fill with tourists.
Undoubtedly Cadaqués is a must for anyone wishing to know the essence of the Costa Brava and especially the Dali Universe.

The hotel staff were excellent, friendly & helpful, they spoke excellent English. Large rooms and good to have kitchen facilities and use of a shared laundry. Easy 5-10 minute walk down to the old town but a bit of a steep walk back. Much easier than driving to the town as parking is a nightmare. Close to Dali's house and easy access to the lighthouse. No kettle in the kitchen & wifi was slow & intermittent - small things. |

The studio (part of a complex) was lovely and sunny with a terrace and view onto the mountain (and a little bit onto the harbour, which was a treat!). Location, high up in the town near the Cap de Creus national park, is perfect for acces to footpaths (e.g. 2.5-hour walk to Cap de Creus lighthouse by the fabulously beautiful coastal path) and nice and peaceful; it is also very near Port Ligat where the Dali 'shrine' (!) is located (5-min walk). The kitchen area is cleverly integrated into the entrance hall and is separated from the living/sleeping space by a door, which is a good idea. The studio was well-designed and comfortable (beds were comfy, too). Very friendly and helpful staff. The sound insulation is very poor, so one can hear the neighbours' tvs; the plumbing also needs attention as there is a terrible whining noise of air blocked in water pipes each time a tap (including neighbours' taps) is turned on. Heat exchangers for our and a neighbouring apartment were placed on our exterior wall, and made a racket each time the heating was used (through a reverse air conditioner). There was quite a pong of sewage from the front of the studio at the entrance. If the plumbing and noise insulation were sorted out, it would be a perfect place to stay, because everything else was excellent, including the friendly staff! |

Premier séjour sur Cadaquès, en famille, 4 nuits sur place. Nous avions un bel appartement très lumineux avec trois chambres, très bien équipé, et double terrasse dont on pouvait apercevoir la baie de Cadaquès. Très bel appartement, très propre, confort impeccable, nous n'avons pas eu à tester le Wi-Fi (de vraies vacances, quoi...). Personnel de l'hôtel très accueillant, toujours prêt à renseigner ou rendre service. L'hôtel est très bien placé, à moins de 10 minutes à pied du centre (un peu plus au retour puisque ça monte...). L'hôtel était particulièrement calme en cette saison (Mars) et nous avons eu un temps splendide qui nous a permis de profiter des terrasses. Les enfants ont adoré, nous aussi, que du bonheur. Difficile de reprendre le boulot après une parenthèse pareille... |

Nos han encantado las vistas del apartamento a la bahía de cadaqués y la terraza en la que desayunábamos con el sol de la mañana. Tanto el cuarto de estar como las habitaciones son muy amplias, bien decoradas y muy agradables. La cocina y el baño muy bien. Todo muy limpio. El centro de cadaqués está sólo a diez minutos andando. La chica de la recepción muy maja. Hay apartamentos rehabilitados y sin rehabilitar, estuvimos en uno de los rehabilitados y genial. Muy recomendable. Los colchones eran un poco duros. |

Estuvimos en un apartamento de una habitación, tanto el espacio, salón, habitación y baño eran amplios, como el equipamiento, no le faltaba de nada y la estancia fue muy cómoda, eran inmejorables. De lo mejor la terraza con unas vistas impresionantes a Cadaqués. En general todo correcto, la situación te permite desplazarte andando al centro de Cadaqués en pocos minutos, aunque la subida es algo mas pesada, lo compensan las vistas desde la terraza y la piscina.Tiene parking propio, imprescindible en la población Por poner un pero, las habitaciones no tienen la posibilidad de quedar a oscuras y el wifi funciona muy lento. |

L´apartament estava molt ben equipat i les vistes eren excelents. L´esmorzar molt complert i tot de qualitat. El tenir parking dintre del mateix recinte es molt comode, ja que pots moure´t a peu per el poble. Molt recomanable Por poner un pero, las habitaciones no tienen la posibilidad de quedar a oscuras y el wifi funciona muy lento. |

Le cadre, la propreté de la résidence. La vue sur Cadaquès, et les environs, de la terrasse de l'appartement et du magnifique espace piscine/bar. Propreté de la piscine. Appartement/studio agréable. Bon accueil. Accès à pieds assez facile au centre de Cadaquès. Confort moyen de la literie. |

Nos gusto la tranquilidad. Creo que por ese precio podrian esforzarse un poco mas con el mobiliario (tresillo roto, TV torcida, ausencia casi absoluta de decoracion). Tambien hemos encontrado incomodo el tener un solo baño en un apartamento para 6 personas. Ofrecen Wifi gratuito, pero solo sobre el papel porque es casi imposible conectarse o mantener la conexion. |
