Verblijf in het hart van Roses
Hotel Carmen ligt op minder dan 100 meter van het strand in de stad Roses aan de Costa Brava. Dit kleine designhotel biedt charmante, lichte kamers met een flatscreentelevisie en een eigen badkamer.
Het Carmen Hotel bevindt zich in 3 gerenoveerde vissershuisjes. Het werd ontworpen door lokale kunstenaars en heeft een typisch mediterrane stijl. Het ligt in het centrum van Roses en heeft vele winkels, bars en restaurants in de directe omgeving.
Hotel Carmen heeft een 24-uursreceptie waar het personeel u graag informatie geeft over wat er allemaal te doen en te zien is in de omgeving.
In het gebied rondom Roses vindt u het mooie dorp Cadaques en het museum Salvador Dalí in Figueras.

Bevindt zich in het uiterste noorden van de Golf van Roses, daar waar de berg weer dieper in zee dringt en aan de Costa Brava opnieuw zijn karakteristieke vorm geeft.
N.a.v. enkele overblijfselen die men gevonden heeft verzekert men dat Roses ontstaan is doordat zich ter plaatse een griekse kolonie heeft gevestigd, zelfs ouder dan die van Empúries, die Rhode heette. Van de andere kant stamt het belang van Roses als militaire haven uit de aller vroegste tijden.
De hele geschiedenis van Roses komt neer op het belang van deze stad in tijd van oorlog en ten opzichte van de zee. In Middeleeuwen ontwikkelde het zich als grens, speciaal vanaf de inlijving van Rosselló bij Frankrijk in 1659. Als souvenir van dit verleden staan nog de ruïnes van het kasteel La Trinitat op Punta de la Poncella, en de mur van het XVIe eeuwse fort.
Actueel is Roses met 3.150 inwoleengoed van de graven van Empúries. Het was de aanleghaven voor de vloot van het graafschap, en één van de drijfveren van de catalaanse uitbreiding over de Middellandse Zee. Het vormde één van de verdedigings bolwerken aan de ners en een twintigtal hotels een eerste rangs toeristencentrum en zomerverblijfplaats en het nette en schone dorp blijft zijn typische aspect van een vissersdorp behouden.
Het uitzicht op de Golf van Roses vanuit het dorp is sensationeel en schitterend op elk moment van de dag. Langs de kust, richting en voorbij Punta de la Poncella, waarop de vuurtoren staat, bevinden zich Cala Canyelles Petites, Punta Falconera, Cala Montjoi (waar is de Stichting van El Bulli, van Ferran Adrià chef), Cala Murtra, Cala Lledó, Cala Rustella en zoveel andere buitengeone plekjes.

Small double room lacking drawer space, only one chair, nowhere to put suitcase. View onto huge pipes of air conditioning at back of hotel nearby. No insulation above the fridge in the cupboard, so the shelf above was too warm to use. Washbasin very shallow, showerhead in wrong place. No shelves in bathroom, so washbag had to be put on floor. In the breakfast room the toaster was faulty and only toasted one side of the bread |

Very good details like the free water, coffe, tea at any time of the hour, good brand of the schampoo/shower gel/soap in the bathroom (l'occitane), excelent breakfast with good quality products and anything you might wish for. The room was very clean and with a big terrace overlooking the sea! The bed was very comfortable, good pillows and nice sheets/ bedding. The bathroom was perfect. The only thing to think about is that the room we took was not completely sound isolated, however this was specified during the booking. Som few minor sounds that might bother the light sleeper but nothing a pair of earplugs cant solve. The hotel staff was very kind and accomodating as well as discrete which gave you a feeling of comfort and wellness! Highly recommended! Nothing to complain about. Very nice hotel, loved it! |

El Hotel está mejor de lo que esperábamos. La habitación Doble Superior es amplia igual que el baño. Los acabados de la habitación son buenos, la grifería Grohe y la bañera grande y cómoda. El personal del Hotel es muy amable y nos ayudó en todo lo que necesitamos. El desayuno es muy completo y muy bueno. Hay un parking gratuito a 150 metros del Hotel. Spotlessly clean and very friendly. We got the last room, which probably was the least attractive room (very dark), however it was a last minute booking. Internet connection was cumbersome, constantly needed an access code from the reception for each device. |

Excellent hotel -Close to the sea, in the city centre close to the shopping / restaurant streets -Friendly and helpful staff, gave us advice on everything from restaurants to excursions -Very clean -High quality breakfast -Good size room (had superior room) Even the smallest details were well catered for. E.g.: we were given beach towels at reception (small detail, but saved us 10 euros on buying beach towels). Also, on the last day of our visit we had to leave at 7am (before hotel breakfast), so they arranged for us to have breakfast at the hotel Rom next door, free of charge Great hotel, in all major aspects, and even to the smallest detail We were in a room that was on the road practecly so no option opening the window. In a great backstreet location within easy walking distance of the beach. Great selection of restaurants nearby of all kinds / prices Italian - just along Trinitat - particularly good and value for money Wi-fi worked fine - even sitting outside adjacent hotel for a coffee of an evening We were in a room that was on the road practecly so no option opening the window. Very large bathroom. Good bed and ok size TV. Good size refrigerator. Standard breakfast with option of bacon and eggs. Balcony with roof wievs, could see sea if you stand up. Near beach. Garage for once was easy to drive in and out. Otherwise silent, only seagulls had their babys and it was very noicy. No mirror in room. Second chair would be nice too. Only one sort of cheese at breakfast. Ants ants ants, if leave some food anywhere open it will be full of ants in no time. |

I agree with the other reviews. Outstanding customer service. The staff was very attentive to our needs and really did a great job taking care of us. The breakfast was also a highlight for us. Again, great staff in the breakfast area and they have a very good selection of meat, cheese, juice, yogurt, and pastries to choose from. They will serve eggs and bacon upon request as well. The rooms we had were pretty small and basic but certainly clean and comfortable. The bathrooms were nicely sized and the shower was great. Finally, the location was fantastic--just one block off the beach. Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Carmen. I definitely recommend this place. Thanks again to all the staff. Well done! No mirror in room. Second chair would be nice too. Only one sort of cheese at breakfast. Ants ants ants, if leave some food anywhere open it will be full of ants in no time. |

All reception staff were excellent - really friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived. The room was quite small but beautifully decorated and had a little balcony outside which was a bonus. The bathroom was very clean and included l'occitane toiletries. Delicious breakfast including eggs cooked to order - all great. No mirror in room. Second chair would be nice too. Only one sort of cheese at breakfast. Ants ants ants, if leave some food anywhere open it will be full of ants in no time. |

From the inside, this is really a 4* boutique hotel with multiple design elements, great attention to detail, all possible comforts and great staff. The breakfast was copious and varied and all the various parts were of good quality. The rooms were very comfortable with spacious power showers, occitane toiletries, big fluffy towels etc All over the hotel there were pieces of art and curiosities to look at which created a homely atmosphere, so unlike the sterile nature of many modern hotels. The location, although central and close to the beach was a bit seedy, although I think it was actually safe. There was no parking at or close to the hotel which is situated on a one way narrow street. Although there is a very good system in place for parking at a nearby lock up garage, it was both disconcerting and reassuring to have a 'lock up box' within the locked up car park! Also felt 10euro per night was a bit steep. Our room (at the back) faced onto the police station car park and this was quite noisy at times. It wasn't very pretty either. |

Friendly hotel just minutes from the seafront. We had a very warm welcome from Elena who was able to suggest places to eat and park for free. Loved the attention given to breakfast - a delicious buffet with eggs that could be ordered from the kitchen any way you might like them. Quiet and impeccably clean rooms with a lovely large balcony. A very enjoyable stay - thank you! The room was very small. |

We loved the breakfast. Hot eggs! Great spread. Room was adequate and clean. Close to restaurants and a gorgeous beach. Difficult to find with one way streets. It was off season and not very crowded. No upgrade in an empty hotel. Next day as we were leaving, they said they should have upgraded us since we were nice. |
