Dalí fa onore alla capacità inventiva del capoluogo dell’Alt Empordà. Figueres è infatti la capitale della tramontana, il vento della genialità. Città di medie dimensioni situata nella pianura dell’Empordà, è assurta a capoluogo in tempi moderni.
Capitale della regione dell'Ampurdán, Figueres è la più grande città della Catalogna vicina a la frontiera francesa (che si trova circa 15 km al nord), con una popolazione totale di 45.000 persone. A causa di questa posizione strategica la città è diventata un nodo importante di comunicazione di turisti che escono ed entrano in Spagna.
Le vie di accesso a Figueres sono diversi, e tutti di buona qualità. Per strada si accede facilmente con l'autostrada A-7 (uscita numero 3). Inoltre la N-II e N-260 anche attraversano Figueres. Se arrivate in treno, dovete sapere che la stazione di Figueres si trova nel centro della città e che è una delle fermate della linea che collega Barcellona con Portbou. Attualmente l'AVE (il treno alta velocità spagnolo) unisce Figueres con Parigi.
L’offerta di musei esprime la forte passione della città per la scoperta. Il Museo del Giocattolo presenta una curiosa collezione di giocattoli di tutti i tempi. Il Museo dell’Empordà illustra il patrimonio artistico di questa terra, nonché le espressioni dell’arte contemporanea più attuale, a cui è stato dedicato uno spazio a parte. Il Museo della Tecnica espone alcuni degli oggetti che hanno reso la vita più facile all’uomo.
Una delle attrazioni principali di Figueres è il museo Dali in cui il grande genio ha voluto lasciare quello più emblematico del suo lavoro. Inaugurato nel 1974, il Teatro-Museo (era originariamente il teatro comunale della città) è uno dei musei più visitato della Catalogna. È stato progettato per offrire al visitatore una panoramica completa del lavoro del pittore Salvador Dali (1904-1989), e veramente riesce ad offrire un'immagine unica e accattivante ai visitatori del lavoro dell'artista. Il milione e oltre di visitatori all’anno rimane sbalordito davanti alla vista di automobili in cui piove eternamente, ologrammi impossibili, labbra di donna diventate sofà e altri 1500 pezzi stupefacenti. Dalí è sepolto qui.
Ma, anche se la visita di questo straordinario museo di Figueres giustifica la vostra presenza nella città, l'offerta culturale non si ferma qui. Il Castello di Sant Ferran (Castillo de San Fernando) è una fortificazione militare costruita nel XVIII secolo da ingegneri militari. Le sue dimensioni sono impressionanti (le più grande nel suo tempo), con un perimetro di 3120 metri e una superficie di 32 ettari. Era in grado di ospitare fino a 6.000 uomini. Dal 1997 il castello fortificato può essere visitato e una passeggiata per l'interiore (che comprende magazzini, stalle e altri locali) è fortemente raccomandata. La visita ai suoi sotterranei, in cui è posta una cisterna capace di contenere 40 milioni di litri d’acqua, è un’esperienza degna dei racconti di grandi viaggiatori.
Già nel centro della città visitate la Rambla, la strada principale. È la più emblematica dello spazio urbano, il vero centro commerciale di Figueres. Attorno ad lei sono si concentrano gli edifici più belli della città, di diversi stili: barocco, classico, neoclassico, modernista, art nouveau, noucentista ... La Rambla è coronata da una scultura dedicata ad un altro figlio illustre della città: Narcís Monturiol, inventore del primo sottomarino, l'Ictíneo.
La città, di tradizione repubblicana, si è sviluppata intorno alla Rambla, un viale costellato di caffè storici come quello dell’antico Hotel París, e di edifici in stile modernista e noucentista (oggetto di un apposito itinerario), fra cui particolarmente degno di nota è il teatro El Jardí.
Figueres, nota per la sua ottima cucina, ha ristoranti famosi e altri meno conosciuti in cui si esprimono nuove generazioni di chef. Al mercato coperto si possono trovare tutti i prodotti naturali della zona.

Il est très facile de se garer et pour pas cher vu les horaires des parcmètres. Pas la peine de réserver le parking! en tout cas hors saison. L'Hotel en si, no estava del tot malament, sempre i quan busquis algo barat. Tenien dutxa amb efecte pluja, com deien a la descripció de l'habitació. El WIFI el vam poder utilitzar el primer dia, però el dia següent va deixar de funcionar. Atenció al client una mica seca. Les dones de la neteja mal educades. Considero que la nota mitja que té l'hotel de 8,1 sobre 10, és molt molt exagerada. Per mi, és un 6 màxim. |

Pay an extra €1 and go at night (although I don't know if it opens at night all year round, or just in high season). Internet connection was very slow. Perhaps I was far from the router, but it was very slow. You also had to get a new code each day from the reception desk which was annoying. Chambermaids noisy outside the room when I was sleeping, some noise from the street. |

The location was great, I found my way there from the train station and very close to the Dali Museum. Whilst the room was small it was comfortable. Nice, clean bathroom. Whilst my room was not ready yet when I arrived, they let me store my bag so I could head out. No breakfast included and 6.50 euros was a bit much for me to add it on at the hotel. |

The staff were helpful and friendly, and it was close to the Dali museum. Also parking was a bonus. The bathroom was a good size and the room was comfortable. And the Breakfast was very nice. to expensive extra money for parking |

We were given a large room (over the reception area). There was even a bathtub. Room was very clean. Walking distance to everywhere. Breakfast was value for money at 6euros. There were several flies in the room but I guess it comes with the area as there were flies everywhere in the town. The hotel is a little difficult to find as the town has many tiny streets. |

Perfect inexpensive hotel for visiting the Dali Museum. Staff was very helpful. The Heat/AC had not been switched to AC for the season yet, so they found us a fan, which cooled the room perfectly. This hotel also has available parking Too far from train station and we have to walk or taxi only. |

This hotel is very well located for access to the Dali museum and the old town, all nearby & in walking distance. The parking is very convenient and secure (on the premises) with direct lift access to the hotel. Very dated rooms and basic furnishings. But the bed & pillows were comfortable. The WiFi was abysmal – it was extremely slow and we had to re-log-on every 30 minutes. It took us hours to access Booking.com to find our next hotel!! A complete waste of time, a WiFi café would be a better option. The plumbing (from other rooms) was very noisy. We felt that the hotel was over-priced for what you get compared to other hotels in Spain. |

Quality/price ratio. Friendly staff. Clean rooms. Location in town centre. Rooms are well equipped. The free WiFi is time (1h) and speed (56kb/s) restricted to a point which rendered it useless to me. Parking is small and there was no space for my car because I didn't book it in advance. |
