El Portal de les Hortes si trova in Hostalric
Hostalric, a sud, è l’antica sede del vescovado di Girona- Cabrera. Sorta sul fiume Tordera e punto strategico di transito fra Barcellona e Girona, ha un grande castello medievale che nel xviii secolo venne trasformato in fortezza militare per difendere la zona durante la guerra con i francesi.
Il castello ha vissuto battaglie cruente, come quella dell’inverno del 1810: oltre 3000 bombe in soli due giorni.
La sua cinta muraria (600 metri di lunghezza con sette torri cilindriche) è impressionante.
