Hotel Trave ist in Figueres
Dalí macht dem schöpferischen Potenzial der Kreisstadt von Alt Empordà alle Ehre. Denn Figueres ist die Hauptstadt des Tramuntana, des Nordwindes, dem eine Verbindung zur Genialität nachgesagt wird. In der Moderne hat sich die mittelgroße Stadt in der Empordà-Ebene zu einem Regionalzentrum entwickelt.
Seit der Fertigstellung der von der französischen Grenze nach Süden führenden Autobahn hat die Stadt als Einkaufszentrum für die Costa Brava an Bedeutung eingebüsst. Auch fahren seither viele aus Zentraleuropa kommende Touristen an Figueres vorbei. Vom Wohlstand der Küste ist in Figueres nicht so viel zu sehen; die Häuser in der Altstadt könnten eine Restaurierung gut vertragen. Keinesfalls sollte man in der Metropole des l’Alt Empordà den Besuch des Castell de Sant Ferran versäumen: es gilt als grösste Festung Europas.
Was wäre Figueres ohne seinen berühmtesten Sohn Salvador Dalí, der hier am 11. Mai 1904 geboren wurde un dem heute ein Museum gewidmet ist, das zu den am mesiten besuchten Museen Spaniens zählt? Ring um das Museum wird heute ein regelrechter Dalí-Kult betrieben. Geschirr, Parfüms, Bademäntel, Poster, Schmuck, Uhren und T-Shirts: alles wird mit Dalí-Motiven angeboten.
Das Museum ist in der Stadt gut ausgechildert. Ein Parkhaus befindet sich in unmittelbarer Nähe. Wartezeiten müssen im Sommer einkalkuliert werden. Das Museum ist im ehemaligen, 1850 erbauten Theater von Figueres untergebracht. Im Innern sind auf mehreren Etagen und in mehreren Sälen viele seiner Werke zu bestaunen, darunter Selbsbildnisse und Porträts seiner Muse Gala sowie der Filmschauspielerin Mae West. Ein riesiges Deckengemälde zeigt von barocken Vorbildern inspiriert eine grotesk verzerrte Perspektive. Andere Bilder zeigen die berühmten zerfliessenden Uhren und Elefanten, einen Brotkorb (la panera del pa), eine surrealistiche Fantasie an einer Felsenküste (L’espectre del sex-appeal) oder ein Küstendorf im flirrenden Licht (Port Alguer).
Das Theater-Museum Dalí, an Stelle eines im Spanischen Bürgerkrieg zerstörten Theaters errichtete und 1974 vom Künstler persönlich eingeweihte Gebäude ist für sich allein bereits etwas Besonderes: ein mit einer transparenten Kuppel gedecktes amphitheater mit riesigen eiern auf dem Dach, Broten an den außenwänden ... Zu sehen sind Bilder aus allen Schaffensperioden des Künstlers, aber auch Wand- und Deckengemälde, surrealistische Objekte und andere Überraschungen. In diesem Sinne finden Sie im Theater- Museum, das mit über einer Million Besuchern im Jahr zu den meistbesuchten Museen in Spanien zählt, ein auto, in dem es unaufhörlich regnet, unmögliche hologramme, die als Sofa dienenden Lippen einer Frau, rund 1 500 weitere interessante exponate ... und Dalís Grab.
Die nordwestlich des Zentrums gelegene Festungsanlage kann vom Dalí-Museum aus am besten zu Fuss (ca. 1,5 km, Steigung) erreicht werden.
Für Autofahrer gibt es direkt an der Festungsmauer Parkplätze. Mit dem Bau dieses riesigen Forts, das als grösstes in Europa bezeichnet wird, würde 1753 begonnen; 13 Jahren lang wurde gebaut. Danach diente die Festung zur Sicherung der Pyrenäengrenze, vor allem im Krieg mit den napoleonischen Truppen.
Heute schlendert man durch eine nahezu filmreife Kulisse von monumentalen Militärgebäuden mit bis zu 3 m dicken Verteidigungsmauern, Wachtürmen, Munitionsdepot, Brunnen, Kanonen und Gewölbekellern. 32 ha umfasst das Gelände, auf dem seinerzeit bis zu 12 000 Soldaten untergebracht waren. Höhepunkt der Besichtigung ist der Bepunkt der riesigen Gewölbekeller, die einst als Pferdeställe diente. Bis zu 500 Pferde konnten hier zu Spitzenzeiten untergebracht werden. Die Akustik dieses Orts, vergleichbar mit einer Kirche, ist einmalig. Die riesige Militärfestung wurde im 18. Jahrhundert zum Schutz des Grenzgebiets auf einer die empordà-ebene dominierenden anhöhe errichtet. Unter ihr verbergen sich Zisternen mit einer Kapazität von 40 Millionen Litern, deren Besuch eine erfahrung darstellt, deren erwähnung der berühmtesten reiseberichte würdig wäre.
Eine Stadt mit republikanischer Tradition, die sich um die Rambla entwickelt hat, eine städtische Promenade mit historischen Cafés, wie dem des ehemaligen hotel Paris, und zahlreichen sehenswerten Gebäuden, die dem Modernisme (katalanischer Jugendstil) oder Noucentisme (katalanischer Neoklassizismus) zuzuordnen sind und unter denen das Theater el Jardí herausragt.

on nous a changé la chambre sans problême . le petit déjeuner copieux , chambre meublée pratique et spacieuse ( pour 3 personnes ) aprés la 3 eme visite bonne literie , personnel á l ' écoute . la 1ere chambre que l ' on nous a proposé sentait le tabac froid et surtout dégageait une mauvaise odeur ( tuyauteries sales ) , pas de rideaux occultants aux fenêtres et impossiblede fermer les persiennes , la 2eme chambre était close petite et donnait sur un patio sale et obscur sans lumiére de jour et surtout sans ouverture ni aération sur l ' extérieur , et toujours cette odeur de tabac froid ,je ne la recommande pas aux clostrophobes et c ' est au bout de la 3 eme visite que l ' on nous a proposé une chambre de 3 personnes pour nous deux , comme c' était hors saison on a eu trés certainement de la chance . Les menus du restaurant sont des plus basiques et au niveau prix pas du tout en rapport . |

The staff were very friendly and involved the children. Some also spoke English. The rooms were very dated and the family room we were given was not as depicted on the website. The balcony for the room had been boxed in and converted to an extension of the room. The 4th bed was situated on this balcony but it was extremely hot as the air conditioning didn't cool it. I would not recommend the restaurant, it was very expensive and of poor quality. We tried the set menus, paella - which was the same as the risotto and awful, the hake - 2 small pieces of fish that were not cooked, with runny batter oozing out and no chips or side dish. |

Nice little hotel, very nice staff (Maybe not that nice if you don't speak spanish), swimming pool.Free parking with surveillance, and there was always space. Air conditionning not very efficient, equipment is a bit old but everything was working properly. |

Good base for a trip to the Dali Museum It would have been nice to have a balcony in our room as most of the other rooms in the annexe seemed to have. Not very nice views from our window. The pool should NOT have a diving board - it isn't deep enough at 1.6m. |

The was only 46euros the staff were friendly. The location. I mixed up the colour coding on my map. I thought 8 blue was the hotel but 8 blue was a point of interest in the centre of the old town. I had to walk about 30 mins further with ruc sack on my back in 30 deg. Still, it was my mistake! |

Figueres is great for art lovers and a good transport centre for the lovely Costa Brava coastal resorts by bus and Girona and France by train. Rooms have nice balconies for sitting out on. A clean and pleasant hotel. Ample parking for drivers. No armchair (only a desk chair) in room. Bus and train stations nearly a 20 min walk away. During unseasonably cool weather in May room heating wasn't functioning. (I think maybe my air conditioner/heater was broken.) |

The room was comfortable and accessable for disabled, once you got indoors. There is a very steep ramp and steps to the front door. It is impossible to walk up the ramp. I was told if assistance was requested, it would be supplied but it was not freely offered although it was obvious I needed help to get to the front door. |

Location especially.. Very close to sidreria which the rough guide had suggested for tapas. Close to salvador dali museum and the castle as well.. Walking distance. Good comfort. Free safe parking available infront of the hotel inside a gated boundary. Restaurant and bar available, but there are many options down the road if you are ok to walk 1 km. Nothing in particular. No frills place for a stayover. |
