Extremely friendly staff that went ¨extra mile¨ for our comfort and helped to find restaurant for dinner (La Penyora, excellent fusion food, traditional / innovative), and even gave their personal contact for emergency. Charming romantic rooms, quiet location close to the Cathedral in the Old Jewish Quarter (the only noise was the chime of the Cathedral´s Bell). High ceiling, so you have a lot of air in the room and sleep well. Vintage furniture but modern installations: thermostat to regulate room temperature, shower column, free toiletries in the bathroom. Clean room and bathroom. The price is very reasonable for the value. Everything was great to stay in winter, however we did not see Air Conditioning in the room, therefore we do not know how it feels there in summer time. Hopefully the rooms are cool by themselves due to the old thick stone walls.Overall - great experience, we would return there again and recommend it to our friends

Casa Cundaro is in Girona

Capital of the Costa Brava region and one of the capitals of Catalonia, Girona is a medium-sized city boasting a wealth of historic heritage. A university city and bustling service centre, in close proximity to the coast and the Pyrenees, and with an international airport, it is one of the most beloved cities in Catalonia.

Situated in the Ter valley at the point where the river enters the city lies the largest city park in Catalonia, La Devesa. The Onyar River, which flows through the historic quarter, has afforded an image which sets the city apart: a Florentine vision of earth-toned houses flanking the peaceful waters crossed by various bridges such as the Iron Bridge (by the architect Gustave Eiffel). The east bank of the river is home to the historic quarter while the west bank is home to the modern city. Just 30 minutes drive from the center of the Costa Brava and just over an hour from Barcelona, it has an excellent range of cultural, commercial and recreational offer.

Colour houses along the Onyar river, in Girona

If you have the opportunity to visit the Costa Brava you should not miss this city, which has the urban charm but also the cosy beauty of small towns. Like all corners of the Costa Brava, Girona is a city on a human scale so that it can perfect fit your travel needs and take advantage of its cultural offers as festivals, cultural activities, concerts... undoubtedly Girona is the city of the Costa Brava with an highest activity through all the year.

Girona centerMedieval walls of Girona

Strategic site on the northern route of the Via Augusta, it was first a Roman city, seat of the bishopric from the 5th century and capital of the earldom of Girona from the Carolingian era. Even in modern times, its resistance in the War against Napoleon (1808-1809) was legendary.

Its old quarter is dominated by the cathedral, with a majestic entrance (a Baroque staircase with almost one hundred steps). It comprises a large Romanesque bell tower and cloister, a Baroque façade and a Gothic nave. Moreover, it is the widest single nave (almost 30 metres) in medieval European architecture. The temple houses an extraordinary Romanesque masterpiece of textile art, the Tapestry of the Creation (11th century). The Chapter Museum exhibits an outstanding Beatus (10th century) by Ende, one of the few named female artists of the Middle Ages. Lovers of Romanesque and Gothic art must pay a visit to the Art Museum housed in the Episcopal Palace.

Behind the cathedral, the stroll along the ancient wall is an unrivalled vantage point. Visitors can gain an insight into Girona’s past at the History Museum. At the foot of the cathedral, visitors can explore the Call or Jewish quarter, few of which have been so well preserved. The streets surrounding Carrer de la Força and the house of Isaac the Blind (now the seat of the Jewish History Museum) were home to an active Jewish community for 600 years until their expulsion in 1492. The Call features its ritual baths, synagogues and an important Kabbalah school with such wise men as Nahmanides, more commonly known in Catalan as Bonastruc ça Porta.

Next to the cathedral, beyond the Sobreportes gateway, are two churches which form the silhouette of the old city: the Monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants (11th-12th century, a former Benedictine abbey), which houses the Archaeological Museum, featuring a magnificent Gothic nave and a cloister, and Sant Feliu, a stone’s throw from the River Onyar, a blend of different styles which in the presbytery conserves the early Christian tombs from the period of Christian persecution. It has a beautiful cloister and a two-floor octagonal bell tower, decorated with double glazing also in Lombard style. Sant Feliu church contains a chapel dedicated to the patron saint of the city. Legend has it that a swarm of flies emerged from the chapel which frightened off the French during the siege of 1285.

The Arab Baths constitute a unique Romanesque building which was designed according to a North-African model.

Girona CathedralBrigde over the Onyar river

One of the most emblematic images of Girona is that of the buildings on the river Onyar, which crosses the city. This is a series of houses on the river, in height, which are painted in bright colors. The city has eleven bridges over the river, and the best known of all is the Eiffel Bridge, designed by Gustave Eiffel and built shortly before the famous tower in Paris.

Girona’s historic centre boasts outstanding architecture and unforgettable nooks and crannies: the Church of Sant Nicolau, the Gothic building of Pia Almoina (a medieval charitable institution), the convents of Sant Domènec (now a university building) and El Carme, the mansions flanking Carrer dels Ciutadans such as the Palau Agullana and the Fontana d’Or (which hosts fine exhibitions), the Plaça del Vi, and the archways on Rambla de la Llibertat. However, Girona also has a wealth of popular legends including the witch of the cathedral (a sinner turned to stone, now a gargoyle on the north façade of the cathedral), the Cocollona (the monster that crosses the river on nights with a full moon) and the bottom of the lioness which brings good fortune to those who kiss it (in front of the Church of Sant Feliu). Girona is a city through which to saunter, brimming with myriad restaurants, designer boutiques and handcraft stores.

Notable buildings on the other bank of the river include the Farinera Teixidor flour mill and the Casa de la Punxa, part of the legacy of the Noucentista architect Rafael Masó. Visitors to this part of the city can also explore the Cinema Museum, the only one of its kind in Spain. Housing the Tomàs Mallol collection, it is a veritable journey through the passion and ingenuity that made cinema possible.

Location is very good, right next to the cathedral. Bring ear plugs if you're a light sleeper and wake when you hear loud bells. For a Family of four, the price of the apartment was a good value.

The beds were good. Other furnishings (tables, chaIrs, sofa, wall decoration) were old and of poor taste/quality. Think: Salvation Army. Extremely difficult/impossible to find if driving and not on foot.

Lovely quaint apartment in an old Jewish house right beside the Cathedral. Location is fabulous right in the heart of the old town. Owner was very helpful and gave some really good recommendations for restaurants. Would recommend a visit!

Facilities at apartment are very basic - not really suitable for cooking - perfect for sleeping in only. Great location though!

The apartments are in the most amazing building, a short walk from the check in hotel, Historic Hotel. The owner told us a lot of the history of the building, which was so interesting. We were in the loft studio, up lots of flights of steps, not that that worried us. The studio was huge, with a small balcony, and lots of windows to open and admire the view to the Pyrenees in the distance. There was a kitchen with microwave, fridge. The building is right beside the cathedral, so the bells ring day and night, but as other's have said it adds to the atmosphere. There is a small inner garden you can sit in. The apartments are right in the centre of Girona old town, a perfect spot. Recommend you get a taxi from the bus or railway station if arriving that way, it's not easy pushing suitcases along narrow cobbled streets.

Small problem was the keys to the apartment and the metal gate when you enter the building. It was explained that we needed to move the keys around a little in each lock to get them to work, well we did this, sometimes for quite a while to get the doors and gate to unlock - you have to be patient!

Loved the location of this apartment in the historic part of Girona which is so beautiful with it's winding cobblestone streets and historic buildings. It is unlike anything you see in the US. Girona is also ideally located for day trips by car to so many quaint, historic towns throughout the Costa Brava area (Tossa de mar, calella de palafuguell, llafranch, S'agaro, begur, pals, peratallada, figures, empuries, besalu, olot). Everything is about a 30-45 min drive away through picturesque countryside which makes for great day trips. The nearby beach towns with their cliff walks along beautiful coves are especially gorgeous. We also were able to rent bikes thru Girona Bike Breaks and did a day bike ride along the "vias Verdes" (greenways) while there which was a lot of fun as well. Our Casa Cundaro apartment was spacious, clean and historic but modern with it's exposed bricks and wood beams. The owner was very responsive both before we arrived and while we were there. We just LOVED the Costa Brava area and really enjoyed are stay at Casa Cundaro in Girona. We will definitely be back! Also, the cathedral bells were not bothersome to us. You heard them but they did NOT keep you up at night (and I am a light sleeper)

Location, proximity to old town and walking distance to new. Amazing old building, would have liked to know history.

Bit spartan in our room, 104. A couple of cushions and a picture on the wall would have made a difference.

We loved our room with a balcony looking out toward the cathedral in the old city. The room was clean and the bathroom spacious, bright and unique. We were traveling by bicycle. The staff secured a safe area to store them.

It was challenging to locate Casa Cundaro, but once there the challenge was worth the effort!

The owner was amazing. He took his time to tell us about the amazing history of the house and was patient with our bad Spanish, switching to English whenever we didn't understand something. I really liked this since I'm very shy about speaking Spanish and slow to understand but I like the opportunity to try. The building our room was in was amazingly beautiful, the room was really original and the beds comfortable. A truly unique, highly enjoyable, high value for money experience. Would recommend this to everyone who comes to Girona.

A really beautiful old building with comfortable beds and lovely bathroom with nice towels and bed linen. Our apartment overlooked a courtyard garden and so was quiet and peaceful with great views over the rooftops of Girona.

The only minus (for me) was that there were no electrical appliances, such as a hairdryer, iron or kettle. Had we been staying for longer this would have been a disappointment, although we could probably have asked for them, as the hotel owners were very friendly and helpful.

Xavi, the staff person who helped us was great. This hotel was just lovely...previously, it was a historic home in the Jewish Quarter of Girona. The room was stunning and clean, the bathroom was huge and I felt like I was in some kind of spa.

It would have been nice to have a hair dryer. Since you can see the Cathedral from your room (actually quite nice in some ways) you also can hear the bells ringing on the hour, every hour, including while you are trying to sleep. Rumor has it there's a "white noise" app that would come in handy. It was a bit stressful trying to drive through the historic part of town and they do have regulations for how many times you can drive through there and whatnot (with hefty fines if you violate them). We ended up having a little bit of trouble parking and had to walk quite a ways from the hotel but since the weather was nice it wasn't too bad.

No puedo decir nada negativo
